Glow Job by Kristen Bailey is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy that blends vacation romance, workplace burnout, sizzling chemistry, self-discovery, found family, escapism, and unexpected love into an irresistible summer read. Set against the sun-soaked backdrop of Ibiza, the novel follows an overworked woman desperately in need of a break and a man attempting to breathe new life into his late uncle's rundown villa. Funny, warm, romantic, and filled with Kristen Bailey's signature humor, Glow Job is exactly the kind of book I would pack for a vacation—and one that proves familiar romantic comedy tropes can still deliver something wonderfully unexpected.
The story follows Chloe, who is overworked, underappreciated, and desperately in need of a holiday. When she finds herself at a chaotic wellness retreat in a sun-drenched Ibiza villa, she meets Ben, who has taken a sabbatical from his London restaurant and is attempting to turn his late uncle's rustic property into a functioning retreat. Between feral goats, beach adventures, unexpected parties, and plenty of chaos, Chloe and Ben begin falling for one another. But their time in Ibiza can't last forever, and eventually both will have to decide what happens when the escape ends and real life begins again.
Overall, I loved Glow Job. As always with Kristen Bailey, I found myself completely enjoying the world she created and the characters at the center of it. Chloe and Ben are perfect within the classic romantic comedy tropes we know and love, but Bailey never makes their story feel like she's simply checking boxes. There is warmth, humor, chemistry, and enough personality throughout the novel to make their relationship feel distinctly their own. This is definitely one of those books I would recommend taking on vacation—the kind of fun, escapist read that is easy to settle into whether you're sitting beside a pool, on a beach, or simply wishing you were somewhere sunny.
A Vacation Romance That Makes Familiar Tropes Feel Fresh
One of the greatest strengths of Glow Job is how comfortably Bailey works within familiar romantic comedy territory without allowing the story to become forgettable. Chloe arrives in Ibiza burned out and in desperate need of something to change, while Ben is navigating his own transition as he attempts to make something meaningful out of the villa his uncle left behind. Bringing the two together in this chaotic retreat setting creates exactly the kind of circumstances that make a vacation romance so much fun to read.
The Ibiza setting also gives the novel an effortless sense of escapism. There is sunshine, chaos, romance, and the freedom that comes with temporarily stepping outside your normal life. But beneath all of that fun is a story about two people reconsidering what they actually want. Chloe's burnout and Ben's uncertain future give their romance more emotional weight, allowing the book to explore what happens when getting away from everyday life gives you enough distance to realize something needs to change.
What ultimately made the book stand out for me was the ending. Chloe and Ben work beautifully within the classic tropes throughout the novel, but Bailey once again finds a way to make the story uniquely hers. The ending gave the book an additional layer I wasn't expecting and prevented an otherwise familiar romantic comedy from landing exactly where I assumed it would. That combination of comforting tropes and an ending that offers something different is one of the reasons I continue to enjoy Kristen Bailey's work—and why Glow Job became another five-star read for me.
