★★★★★

Contemporary Fantasy, Mythology Retelling, Romantic Fantasy, Family Saga, Women's Fiction

Ungodly Rich by Katharine McGee is a dazzling contemporary fantasy that brilliantly blends Greek mythology, romance, family drama, ancient rivalries, wealth, power, betrayal, and political intrigue into an utterly addictive modern retelling. Set among a family of billionaire gods whose influence stretches across the globe, the novel reimagines the Olympians in today's world while exploring love, loyalty, revenge, and the complicated dynamics that exist within even the most powerful families. Filled with unforgettable characters, high-stakes drama, mythology woven seamlessly into modern society, and a story that constantly keeps readers wanting more, Ungodly Rich is an imaginative and entertaining read that breathes new life into familiar legends.

The story follows Julia Dodds, whose life changes overnight after she falls in love with Harry Adams, a charming and impossibly handsome man hiding one very important secret—his real name is Ares, the Greek god of war. Before long, Julia is swept into the world of the Olympians, an ultra-wealthy family of immortal billionaires whose influence extends far beyond money. As Julia is introduced to their lavish lifestyle and powerful family dynamics, she quickly discovers that every god has their own agenda. Old rivalries, dangerous secrets, and centuries-old grudges begin to surface, forcing Julia to navigate a world where love, power, and survival are constantly at odds.

Overall, I absolutely loved Ungodly Rich. Katharine McGee took the classic stories of the Greek gods and transformed them into something that feels completely fresh, modern, and incredibly fun to read. I loved seeing familiar mythological figures reimagined as influential billionaires while still maintaining the personalities and rivalries that have made these stories timeless for centuries. The world-building is immersive, the family drama is endlessly entertaining, and I found myself eager to see how each mythological relationship would unfold in today's setting. It was one of those books that was simply impossible to stop thinking about between chapters.

A Brilliant Modern Take on Greek Mythology

One of the strongest aspects of the novel is how naturally McGee incorporates Greek mythology into the modern world. Rather than simply retelling familiar myths, she reimagines the gods as powerful public figures navigating wealth, business, politics, and family expectations. Every character feels recognizable to readers familiar with mythology while still offering fresh interpretations that make the story feel entirely original.

Julia serves as an excellent entry point into this fascinating world. As she learns more about Harry and his extraordinary family, readers discover the secrets of the Olympians alongside her. The tension between the gods, combined with centuries of history and complicated family relationships, creates a story that is filled with intrigue, romance, and unexpected twists.

The global settings, luxurious lifestyle, and larger-than-life personalities make the novel feel cinematic throughout. While the mythology remains at the heart of the story, the emotional relationships and family conflicts make these immortal characters surprisingly relatable. McGee successfully balances fantasy with contemporary fiction, creating a world that feels both magical and believable.
