A Romance / Women’s Fiction Book Review

I’m Looking for a Man in Finance by Sabrina Waldorf is a sharp, addictive enemies-to-lovers rom-com set in the high-stakes world of Wall Street. The story follows journalist Hallie Woods, who’s tasked with dating the most eligible man in finance for a magazine feature—only to clash with the very finance bro determined to ruin her plan.

This book completely surprised me in the best way. I absolutely loved it. What makes it stand out immediately is that James falls head over heels for Hallie right from the start. There’s no dragging-his-feet, no “convince him she’s worth it” energy. He notices her. He wants her. And watching him spiral (in the best way) while still pretending to be annoyed? Elite rom-com tension.

An Enemies-to-Lovers Setup With a Twist

New York City. Hallie Woods is given a career-defining assignment: infiltrate Wall Street and date the most eligible finance bro she can find, documenting every detail for her magazine. The problem? Finance guys are the opposite of her type—and she’s not thrilled about turning her love life into copy.

Enter James Rossi. Tall, polished, and very much at home in the Financial District, he immediately sees through Hallie’s motives. Burned by a past relationship and fiercely protective of himself and his friends, James decides he’s not going to let her use his world as article fodder.

But here’s where it gets good: while they’re sparring at happy hour and trading barbed comments, James is already falling. Hard. Watching him struggle between sabotaging her story and protecting his own very real feelings adds a layer of emotional depth beneath the banter.

The chemistry is sharp, the pacing is fast, and the romantic tension builds in a way that feels both playful and sincere. It’s very How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets Gossip Girl—but with more heart.

Final Thoughts

I’m Looking for a Man in Finance was such a fun, refreshing read. Seeing James fall so quickly—and watching him try to fight it—made the romance feel satisfying from the very beginning. Hallie is ambitious and layered, James is more vulnerable than he lets on, and their chemistry carries the entire story.

It’s playful, romantic, and surprisingly heartfelt. I flew through it.
