Some Sundays in Los Angeles call for something simple.
After a full week of work and school, we decided to slow down and head over to Salt & Straw in West Hollywood. Surprisingly, even though we’ve spent plenty of time exploring Los Angeles, this was actually our first visit to Salt & Straw.
Salt & Straw is one of the most recognizable ice cream shops in Los Angeles, known for rotating seasonal menus and creative flavors. The West Hollywood location sits along Santa Monica Boulevard and has become a popular stop for both locals and visitors exploring the neighborhood.
With its bright red chairs and steady line of people waiting for scoops, it’s one of those places you hear about constantly around the city. This time, we finally decided to stop in and see what it was all about.
The timing couldn’t have been better.
Salt & Straw’s new monthly menu is called the Cereal-sly Delicious Series, a playful lineup of ice cream flavors inspired by the cereals many of us grew up with. And honestly, it felt like the perfect Sunday outing.

A Small Moment in West Hollywood
If you’ve ever walked along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, you know the rhythm of the street — cafés spilling onto sidewalks, people walking dogs, friends meeting up for brunch or dessert.
Salt & Straw sits right in the middle of that energy.
The bright red chairs outside are almost always filled, and on warm afternoons it becomes the kind of place where people linger a little longer than planned.
We grabbed a table outside, ordered our scoops, and watched the city move around us.
Sometimes that’s the best part of Los Angeles — those ordinary moments that quietly become the memory of the day.
Salt & Straw West Hollywood’s Cereal-sly Delicious Series
Salt & Straw rotates its flavors every month, and this March’s theme leans fully into nostalgia.
The Cereal-sly Delicious Series is inspired by the flavors of childhood breakfasts — bowls of cereal before school, Saturday morning cartoons, and those colorful marshmallows that always seemed to disappear first.
Instead of simply mixing cereal into ice cream, Salt & Straw builds each flavor thoughtfully, using cereal-steeped bases and playful textures to recreate those familiar tastes.
This month’s menu includes:
Pots of Gold and Rainbows
Snap ’n Crackle Marshmallow Treats
Peanut Butter Brownie Cereal Puffs
Concord Grape Nut Crumble
Captain’s Berried Treasure
It’s whimsical, nostalgic, and exactly the kind of creative menu Salt & Straw is known for.
What We Ordered
Part of the fun of visiting Salt & Straw in West Hollywood is sampling the flavors before deciding — especially on a first visit.
Once everyone found their favorite, here’s what ended up at our table.
My daughter chose Pots of Gold and Rainbows, served in a cup. The flavor leaned fully into the colorful cereal theme with marshmallow sweetness and a creamy cereal-infused base.
My son went with Snap ’n Crackle Marshmallow Treats in a cone, which instantly reminded us of classic rice cereal treats — toasted cereal, marshmallow notes, and that slightly nostalgic sweetness.
Dad and I shared a scoop of Salt & Straw’s Chocolate Gooey Brownie (a bestseller), which turned out to be rich, chocolatey, and filled with brownie pieces that made it hard to stop after just a few bites.
Between the four of us, the table turned into a small tasting of the menu.
Why Salt & Straw Feels Like a Los Angeles Staple
Even though it was our first visit, it’s easy to understand why Salt & Straw has become such a staple around Los Angeles.
The shop encourages sampling, the flavors rotate constantly, and the creativity behind each menu makes every visit feel like a small experience rather than just grabbing dessert.
It’s playful, a little nostalgic, and surprisingly thoughtful at the same time.
The Intentional Life in Los Angeles
One of the reasons I started this series was to capture these small moments around the city.
Not the big events or the tourist highlights — but the everyday experiences that slowly become part of life here.
A quick stop for ice cream.

Traffic passing by on Santa Monica Boulevard while the afternoon sun starts to soften.
Sometimes the most intentional moments are the simplest ones.
And this one ended with ice cream.
